It is not often that a sweet tooth comes my way and when it does, I’m so ready to try something that looks like it will hit the spot. I have to admit, I am bit tired of the cupcake craze, but that would not stop me from trying a new take on the childhood classic. So I was off to Big Man Cakes, the name alone made me curious. Is there really a Big Man? Yes, and he makes really BIG cupcakes (see penny scale test below)
The small stylized cafe is located on the Main Street drag, with friendly staff decked in the Big Man Bakes brown tees. Their smiling faces recommended their daily special of Nutella cupcakes and then the curiosity took over with a Red Velvet, Apple Caramel, and Oreo. These are some serious cakes. I mean ‘no joke’ cakes.
There is nothing small about them. From the moist texture to the ‘true-to-taste’ the flavor, I was pleasantly surprised as I gobbled my Nutella cake. The frosting and the cake itself has the smoked hazelnut flavor of the Euro classic with no hint of synthetic aftertaste. Pretty good Mr. Big Man.
